Brief: Hoarding Design Concept
‘Following Flowers’ infuses the beauty of Sydney’s natural environment into its growing modern urban fabric. By cladding hoardings with strategically orchestrated illustrations of native flowers, the project becomes a contrasting and dynamic backdrop to the materiality and context of the city. The colours illuminate the city and reflect the energetic people who occupy it while reconnecting viewers with the unique and vibrant flora of Sydney.
The patterns and composition of each panel are the result of abstracted interpretations of pedestrians engaging in a variety of actions. This allows the work to be activated, whether intended or unknowingly, by users at any given moment. It reflects the diverse use of the footpath of Sydney, ranging from idle to active. The arrangements and patterns of each panel are guided by animated pedestrian silhouettes while remaining organic and fluid.
